Getting the most out of your new Soy Candle

When you light your soy candle for the very first time, it's important to allow it to burn for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.     Soy wax has a "memory" which helps to keep the candle from "tunneling" down the center of the container.  Tunneling is one of the main causes for a candle not creating much fragrance while burning.   By allowing your soy candles to create the initial "memory burn", thus creating a full melt pool of wax, you are increasing the candles scent throw.

Although my soy candles are highly fragrant, sometimes larger open floor plan areas  need more then one candle.  Many of my fragrances are bold and will scent an entire home, while others are light and were designed to achieve a soothing ambiance. My recommendation for those with large living spaces is to have an additional candle to achieve maximum scent throw for those larger living spaces.

  • Drafts and/or extreme temperature changes can cause your candle to burn uneven and the fragrance will disperse leaving a poor aroma. Please try moving your candle to a draft-free location if you experience uneven burning.

  • Also you will want to make certain there is enough air circulation around your candle (do not burn candles in a tight area such as on a bookshelf as there will not be enough air circulation, causing a lack of oxygen needed for the candle to burn appropriately). You will not get a good aroma.

I pride myself on our wonderful smelling candles, and add to them the maximum amount of oils that soy wax will hold.  Please remember that all fragrances are NOT created equal.  Some will put out a lot of fragrance in the jar, but not so much while burning.  It all depends on how the raw ingredients in the essential oils burn and dispense in the atmosphere.  If you don't feel a certain fragrance is strong enough for your liking, then you will simply need to choose a different fragrance.

Soy Candle Burn Time for Glass Containers

Please remember 'safety first' when burning a glass container soy candle. You should never burn any candle for more than the recommended time specified. I  would suggest that any candle in a glass container should be burnt for no more than 3 to 5 hours at a time, and then allowed to cool completely before re-lighting. Burning a soy candle for longer than the recommended time could cause the glass to become over-heated and crack! This could result in hot wax leaking from the cracked glass. Please use caution when burning any candle.

Burn candles within sight. Keep away from drafts and vibrations. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Never burn candle on or near anything that can catch fire. Please carefully read the warning label located on the bottom of the container.

Soot and Soy Candles

Anytime you have a flame, you do have soot.  You will find that no candle can be completely soot free, but soy wax candles create much less soot and more importantly none of the toxins found in paraffin candles.  In fact, pure soy wax produce 95% less soot if burned properly.  That means less black soot on your walls, ceilings, and furniture!  Black soot is caused by a wick that is smoking (in most soy candles this is typically caused by the wick being left un-trimmed.)  It takes very little time to care for the wick and is so worth the effort to know you are breathing cleaner air when burning soy candles.

If you are experiencing soot with your soy candle, make sure that you trim the wick to 1/4" each time before you light your soy candle. Second, make sure that you are not burning your soy candle in a draft. Drafts will make your candle flame flicker which causes smoke. Please make certain that when you trim your wick , you catch the debris,  as you should never leave the trimmings in the candle wax. Wick trimmings will cause black soot.

Having good burning conditions and practicing good candle care will help ensure that you get the most out of your soy candle and that it lasts long and burns clean time after time!
